The M982 thru M985 series lightweight monocular night vision systems operate on one AA battery to keep system weight to a minimum. The standard system features a unique face mounting bracket that is used on the AN/PVS-7C and AN/PVS-15 fielded with the US Special Forces. This mount design allows quick changing from the left to the right eye. The monocular features a short range light emitting infrared diode to enhance scene viewing. The standard configuration mounts on a flip-up facemask. Optional mounting includes helmet mounts, and a dual mounting system.
The M982 thru M985 can be used in a handheld mode with optional 3X, 4X, and 6X objectives for longer range observation. Adapters are also available for mounting on 35mm and CCTV cameras and camcorders.
The systems can be supplied with either a Gen II or Gen III image intensifier to meet exact customer needs. A “D” model variation is submersible to 66 feet and is supplied with a lens window for underwater use.
New features of the monocular include a manual gain control and automatic cut-off feature.
